Cubilou ovens, used in cast iron production, generate a significant volume of gases at extremely high temperatures, reaching approximately 1000°C. This technical challenge requires the use of special materials in the construction of exhaust systems.
For chimneys located above the ovens, AISI 310 steel with a thickness of 10mm is used. As the gas temperature drops along the pipe, it moves to the use of AISI 304 steel and, finally, Corten steel. These components can be joined using flexible couplings to compensate for thermal expansions.
The first stage of gas treatment involves the separation of large and incandescent particles into high-performance cyclones. Subsequently, the gases pass through an air/air heat exchanger, where the hot flow circulates through tubes or plates, being cooled by a stream of cold air forced on the outside. The efficiency of the shifter is maintained through a specialized cleaning system.
After reducing the temperature below 200-220°C, the gases are directed to a pulsed jet filter, equipped with Teflon-coated aramid bags. The entire process is monitored and controlled via a PLC system with a supervision interface.
For electric ovens, we have developed a special connection system that ensures constant suction in all phases of operation. Auxiliary operations, such as spheroidization, benefit from mobile suction arms. Due to the lower temperatures in this case, the gases can be sent directly to the bag filter.
The air flow varies with the operations of the oven and is managed through a frequency converter, thus ensuring optimal energy efficiency.
